Asexuals

Before The Doughboys, sixteen year old John Kastner and three friends from Montreal formed the Asexuals in 1983. They hit the ground spinning circles with above-average melodic hardcore (was anyone calling it "melodicore" by then?) that didn't skimp on hooks and sing-songy chorus parts. Here are the opening tracks from their first two albums (John left the group before the third), Be What You Want and Contemporary World, respectively. I recommend tracking down the CD re-issue that has both LPs.

"Be What You Want" and "Where Were You"

Band-related: Marc Arnold from Big Drill Car played guitar on The Doughboys' last tour and went on to form All Systems Go! with Kastner shortly afterwards. Check out YOU ARE THE SCENE! - a website dedicated to the early days of punk rock, hardcore and garage music in Montreal. More Asexuals commentary can be found at Dressed for the H Bomb.
