Impressive doesn't begin to explain how
Pitchfork Media has eclipsed the likes of Rolling Stone and Spin on deeming what's cool and what's crap in the realm of indie and corporate rock, not that there's really a difference these days. (Yeah man, you smell what I'm stepping in? Said best by the anthemic
SST Records bumper sticker,
"Corporate Rock Still Sucks!")
The New York Observer goes into more detail about Pitchfork's rise with a
recent profile. It was during the late 90's dot-bomb days that I habitually checked out music sites when I should have been doing work but how else would I have fallen in love with reviewers like Brent DiCrescenzo? (He still maintains a
semi-cult status among Pitchfork's readers but he moved on to attempt
big screen writing.) They took the art of writing a review to a level reachable only by double-decker time machine spaceships. This
Jets To Brazil review from 1998 demonstrates Brent's mastery of this concept quite literally.
