Friday Guest Blogger Re-mix. Max of
badthings gives another take on Slayer's "Angel of Death." There's a prosaic backstory to this that involves
Matthew Barney, his wife, someone else's husband, and an issue of
Modern Drummer but I couldn't keep up after getting distracted with the
current whereabouts of
Bun E. Carlos.
In any case, Max begins
"Dude, this is a true story:"
A few months ago, my mom forced me to play
Reign in Blood for her. Seriously. She laughed out loud, but claimed that she liked it. (I
refused to show her the lyrics, which probably helped. Also, generous
servings of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.) This proves my theory that if you
can't find something to love about Slayer, you're dead inside. Shit, I
am dead inside, and I still love Slayer.
But I understand that the, uh, genre conventions can be distracting to
the uninitiated. Therefore I offer this cover of Angel of Death by
beatbox genius Dokaka. Now everyone can feel the love of the Slatanic
Wehrmacht.
www.dokaka.com has vanished, but I preserved the mp3 for posterity.
Dokaka - "Angel Of Death" (4.41 MB)
Dokaka is the Japanese beatbox artist whose acapella remakes of well-known songs have earned him a worldwide fan base. I honestly haven't heard anything like this before.
