On the ass-scraping end of the dot-com bar crawl, one of my co-workers was Justin Chearno, total band guy and one of the nicest persons around. I don't mean that in the usual
"you can have my groupie leftovers" kind of way, he is the genuine article of faith. (I think he still bar-backs at HiFi if you wanna judge for yourself.) Veteran of
Pitchblende,
Turing Machine, even played with
Unrest at one point, now in the
Panthers, he's the archetype journeyman of art punk, indie ambient, space or whatever rock.
Somewhere around the time Eddie Vedder's wife was riding with
Hovercraft in the early/mid 90's, Justin was doing likewise in the
Doldrums. Probably the least accessible of all his related projects, it might be easier to spend time with the Doldrums if you pretend you're listening to the 3am-6am shift on a college radio station. But there's no denying the instant appreciation of the song title "HTMLosers" given the fact it was recorded in '94/'95.
